traditional chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete system of medicine. It is well known to treat many pain conditions. Furthermore, it is used to treat a wide variety of health concerns including digestive disorders, emotional/mental health, menopausal concerns, high and low blood pressure and weight concerns.

Regulated in Newfoundland and Labrador, practitioners of TCM have completed years of training. Along with acupuncture, which is the most commonly used tool, cupping, moxibustion, Gua Sha, lifestyle counselling, herbal therapies, and diet therapies can be included in a treatment plan. The tool used is based on individual needs and requests of each patient.

Cupping

Cupping involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. This may help tissue healing by increasing blood flow to the area.

moxibustion

Moxibustion involves stimulating your body’s meridians and acupuncture points by burning moxa on or near these points.

what to expect

Points from head to toe, front and back can be used during a session. This is agreed upon before starting treatment. Acupuncture involves the placement of thin, solid, one-time use sterile needles below the skin and into the soft tissue of the body. While receiving acupuncture, patients generally feel the insert, like a pin prick, as the needle is applied. Afterwards, many sensations are described by the patient. Any sensation is acceptable, including discomfort, itching, aching, etc. However, pain is not an expected sensation.
